Before & After

Ok few deep breaths…

I’d be a complete hypocrite if I ignored this topic all together. The purpose of my blog is to INSPIRE people. To have them say, wow this woman has done it. Why can’t I? No excuses right? RIGHT!

So after tossing and turning at night, thinking about it… I decided I owe it to myself, I owe it to the readers, and I owe it to my future readers to post my before and after pictures. I am proud of how far I’ve come, what I’ve accomplished, and the woman I am today. Yes, it’s hard work. No, I don’t look this way by sitting in my recliner and eating Berger cookies (ohhhhh… aren’t these the best!? Baltimore’s finest!- or Bal-more HON!). I will however sit in my recliner with an apple and peanut wonder and watch Breaking Amish, but that’s not the point…

So as I let these pictures out to the world, I am freeing myself. The truth is, not many people have seen these. The people in my life now are not people that have been in my life forever (except my family members of course). Past boyfriends, friends at the gym, work friends, etc. have said I can’t imagine you any way but the way you are now! And then want to see my pictures. I always would scream NO! Ridiculous right? I would think of it as something I was ashamed of, but the truth is, it feels amazing! To know I went from that to this with HARD WORK. No surgeries, no crazy diets, and no fads.

So here we go…

Boy was I a round baby!

Ok sorry… I will show the real pictures

Ā

A major change. Some of you might say, “well really, she looked fine before”. I’m not saying there was anything wrong with my appearance, or my body in the before pictures. I just did not feel comfortable in my own skin. I felt unhealthy, and not “ME”. And now being this size and shape, I feel confident, I feel beautiful, and I feel like the Minnie I should be. We have to love ourselves first right?

Like I said, I want this to be as real as possible, so some of these pictures are post gym, sweaty/gross, etc. I’m an every day woman, and I workout like a real woman!

I’m not sure exactly how much weight I have lost. I stopped weighing myself at my heaviest because I just did not want to know. But from an old doctors visit record, I have lost around 45-50 pounds. That’s a lot on my small frame (I’m 5’2″). I fluctuate 5 pounds just like everyone else, perfectly normal! I recently stopped weighing myself because I feel great! Who cares about the number!!!! šŸ™‚

How long did it take me? Probably 9 months to a year. I started losing, hit a little plateau, and then became serious about it.

I will keep updating this page for more Before/After pics. I hope I inspired you to make a change…

Comments are welcomed.. the good, the bad, and the ugly.

XOXO With a Cherry On Top,

-Minnie

Thanks for posting these! You have done such a great job and I love this whole thing. I appreciate that your posting all this stuff because it is so wonderful to see someone so motivated and not just to be thin but to be healthy =)

I think you looked beautiful before and after as your dad said. I am also 5″2 and my weight has fluctuated a lot over the years. I have never been overweight or heavy, but I wasn’t where I wanted to be. The most important thing is being comfortable in your own body! Thanks for sharing those pics. I am sure it wasn’t easy to show the world a personal side. Keep up the workouts and thanks for inspiration

Thanks Kristin! It definitely wasn’t easy to share. You open yourself and are vulnerable, but I wanted people to see where I started!

Hi Katie, Thanks for posting these pics and keeping it real. I feel like we have a lot in common from UMD fitness instructors, then I went to an accelerated nursing program and now I just started working about 2 months ago. Lots of weight changes and life changes. Thanks for the motivation. It seems as though you are confident and at peace with yourself! All the best to you šŸ™‚

      Shelby,

Thank you so much! That is so sweet of you to say. Is it sad I actually teared up a little bit? I don’t know, I guess I just work really hard to be comfortable with who I am. And let me say I am SUPER fond of the name Shelby (my parents pups name!)

Very inspiring.. The “oh you look fine” crap Is very frustrating and almost enabling… How dare you try to be healthier when youre not even obese.
I am working on a better version of myself, at 5’02 as well and pretty darn close to your before pics… Thanks for sharing!!

Hey – just wanted to take a quick moment to say something – I stumbled on your blog not long ago – I think this is awesome, and it does inspire ppl – I LOVE when ppl show before and after pics…that way ppl do see it can be done, and it doesn’t happen over night. SLOW and steady…that’s how I did it as well. A pound to a pound 1/2 a wk….several years ago I started hitting the weights – and fell in LOVE! I hate missing work outs. They become addicting!! At any rate, wanted to say awesome job – and keep inspiring!

I think you look fantastic – it’s obivious you’ve put a lot of work into you new life style. I did notice your after pictures are about posting a picture of how you look but missing the life and adventure you showed in the before pictures. You look happy in a different way in each your before and after. It would be great to see the look of living in both. Enjoy and cease the moments!

    1. Katie

      Hi Rhonda,

Thanks for the compliments on my now look. I understand what you are saying about my before pics, but I was in a different place in my life then. I had less responsibilities! Now I’ve just grown up, have a real job, and I can assure you I am just as happy! I just vacation less šŸ˜‰

I stumbled across your blog because I wanted to do a 30 day eat clean challenge. I just had a baby 2 months ago and really need some motivation to get myself back on track. I’m 5 ft 9 and at my heaviest (pregnant) I weighed 205.. My starting weight was somewhere between 145-150lbs. I left the hospital weighing 186 and have only managed to lose another 5 lbs and now I’m stuck at 181. I know that eating clean and working out makes all the difference but I got into a slump with my pregnancy (ice cream 3-4 times a week some weeks) and foolishly though it would all come off magically afterwards! Not so much. I used to be a size 4/6 and now I’m a size 12 (I can barely squeeze into a 10). It’s not about the size like you said – it’s about how you feel about yourself and if you feel confident, and that’s what I want to get back! I’m doing the 30 day eat clean challenge right now and I want to thank you for making it so easy! You post all the recipes and so much other information it really makes a difference. It also helps to see your before pics, and the fact that you have lost almost the same amount of weight I need to lose to get back to my “normal” self!
It’s also amazing to read that your weightloss took around 9 months. I’m really hoping I will be the same! Your blog is completely inspiring and I really hope you don’t ever give up on your journey. How was your 30 day challenge? I hope it went well! All the best to you and your sweet Phoebe Buffay!

    1. Katie

This is seriously the sweetest message I’ve received all day! I’m glad you can relate to my story. So many people can, and that’s why I write this blog. To show IT CAN BE DONE! You WILL do it! It just takes hard work and dedication. I’m so glad you like the recipes too! Phoebe sends her love šŸ˜‰

  18. Tiqvah

Aww, I’m so glad! Well, as long as you are writing this I will keep reading! It’s an awesome blog!

    1. Katie

Great! Hope to keep ya around šŸ™‚

Hi! I just found your blog because of your great almond butter recipe (by the way I’m going to use it very soon! :); after that, I saw your Before & After part! It feels amazing to see that there are other women’s out there with the same problems that I have. Im 5’3” and for almost 8 years I’ve been in a constant battle to drop only 20 pounds because I have problems with binge and emotional eating. So this day you have help me to stop a binge (truly). Im back on my track to the weight loss and I’m going to definitely finish in 2013! So thanks! You have inspire me to go on and don’t let myself down! (PS I will keep reading you have a great blog)

    1. Katie

THIS IS WONDERFUL! Congrats on getting on the right track! šŸ™‚

These pics are great! Keep the amazing work on your blog, inspiring people to get fit and be healthy isn’t a easy thing, and you are doing it perfectly.

Will be back for more šŸ˜€

    1. Katie

Thanks so much! It’s hard to share, but you realize it helps people so they can see change is possible with hard work!

IMHO you were lovely in all the “before” pictures. (I believe women were designed to be soft, round, and cushy.) However, my opinion is irrelevant. The only thing of import is you claim your life. If you feel better and are healthy — physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually — with the “after” body, then I am clapping, cheering, and rooting you. *Woo-hoo!*

    1. Katie

Thanks Tana. That means a lot šŸ™‚
