Cottage Cheese and Preserves
This is one of my favorite “go to breakfasts”. It’s great for on the run, since it just goes in a tupperware container. I usually have this almost every work morning (I alternate with greek yogurt).
Cottage cheese is loaded with protein and it is low in fat too. I buy the no salt added 1% milk fat cottage cheese. The brands I stick to are Friendship and Lucerne (Safeway). I really suggest no salt added because the other ones are ridiculously high in sodium and taste like a salt lick! Do not buy the fat free kind, they just up the sodium more, which I want to avoid. The 1% only has a gram of fat per serving, and is 90 calories for a half a cup!
I mix my cottage cheese with reduced sugar preserves or sugar free preserves. I like the Smuckers brand. They make all different types of flavors: grape, apricot, raspberry, and strawberry. At BJ’s they have the sugar free combo where you get apricot, raspberry, and strawberry in one pack!
This is not a recipe, just to show you guys what I eat. I am asked all the time about this breakfast combo I do, so here it is:
- 1/2 cup of no salt added 1% milk fat cottage cheese
- 2-3 Tablespoons of sugar free preserves (or reduced sugar)
That’s it!
My favorite easy breakfast, packed with protein 🙂
Each serving is approximately 120 calories, 1 gram of fat, 19 grams of carbs, and 14 grams of protein. A little more if you use the reduced sugar instead of sugar free. Low calorie, low fat, and full of protein! Eat up.
Happy eating…

Hi Katie! I just came across your blog from CNC. I love your approach to clean eating, I am about 90% there, and have been for a few years (just cannot give up my pizza and beer!)
Question-I notice that you opt for sugar free preserves that contain splenda. Is splenda a clean diet condiment? I was all about splenda before I switched to clean eating and decided its best to use raw, natural sugar if I needed sweetness.
I ask becuase some say its bad, some say its ok. Same with Agave-some swear by it, some say its not good.
Cannot wait to continue following your blog!

Hi Tara,
I don’t eat 100% clean all the time. It’s very hard to! As far as the preserves go, I don’t eat them as much as I used to for that reason. I try to stick to stevia when using a sweetener. I still do have the preserves but in moderation 🙂 glad u found me!

Smuckers now makes a selection of sugar free preserves with truvia! I am so happy, it’s better than splenda!

I know! They are yummy. Jam and preserves are my favorite food besides oats 🙂
