Sew It’s Finally the Weekend
HAPPY FRIDAY! As I post from home. Sorry I know I am rubbing it in. I am a bad blog friend. Please continue to read.
Yesterday was a good day at work for me! I spent pretty much the whole day in the operating room and had a blast. When I went into PA school I said, well I know I am never going to go into surgery, so that’s out. Well Well Well… look who’s a surgery PA. Funny how things work out. I actually used to be scared of the OR. When you are first in school it is quite intimidating. Especially because OR people are usually OR people for life. They know the ins the outs, and when you are doing something wrong you get called out quickly and feel like a dummy. It happens to everyone, we all have to learn!
My work mornings always start the same. Rounds with my team at 6am, 7am surgery conference, then checking labs on patients, going over plans, writing notes from the morning, etc while I eat.
At 930 I had to get ready for the OR, woo hoo! I knew a good day was headed my way. I scrubbed in on a couple of breast cases and the first one I was able to work side by side with one of my closest resident friends, so we had fun together! It’s great working with people you get along with who are genuinely nice people. I had a great time sewing with her! I love to sew, it’s SEW much fun. Okay I’m corny, sorry! 😉
Anyway, everyone in the OR at my job is so friendly, the total opposite of my old job. Not to bash it, okay maybe I am a little, but I was not respected at all and the people were not very friendly. It makes for a hostile work environment and who wants that!? So glad I switched!
The first case ran late, so I didn’t get a break in between to grab lunch. I ran to my locker, shoved a kashi bar in my mouth and then ran back. I definitely didn’t mind because I had fun in there. It’s so great that I have a job where I get to do different things! Getting away from the floor for a little while is so nice sometimes because things get very hectic. The OR is a different world.
By the time I was out it was 330! I planned on leaving early anyway at 330 so it was perfect timing. I grabbed my things and changed for the gym!
In the car I stuffed my face with my chicken breast from my packed lunch. I CANNOT workout without something in my tum. My workouts suffer without fuel.
Don’t worry I chew with my mouth closed 😉
I realized once I arrived at the gym I had OR lines…
I started my gym sesh with some MAJOR cardio. 47 minutes of stair master love. Felt amazing!
Then I decided to do a mini leg day even though leg day is on Saturday or Sunday. I wanted to focus on hips a little bit and then hit quads and hamstrings on the regular leg day.
- Curtsy Lunges holding 15 lb kettles, single leg 12 reps x 2 sets each leg. Then alternating lunges unweighted, 20 reps x 4 sets
- Side bends with 25 lb plate, 20 reps x 2 sets each side
- Regular squats unweighted, 15 reps x 4 sets
- Plie squats unweighted, 15 reps x 4 sets with 2 sets pulsing up for 8 on tip toes
- Seated leg abduction/adduction, 60-90 lbs, 12 reps x 4 sets each way
- Stability ball hamstring pulls, (lay on mat, heels on ball, lift glutes and hips off mat and pull the ball in using your hamstrings), 12 reps x 4 sets
- Hip/Oblique mountain climbers. Instead of forward movements, rotate knee inward to body, foot flexed out as it bends and crunch in. 16 reps alternating x 2 sets
- Hanging Janes- This is a plank but you use a bench or chair Here’s a picture of someone doing it. NOT ME. These are extremely difficult. I had to use both arms and rotate my body to hold it. I know I will build up the strength one day to do it this way!
I also did a little bit of abs to include ball crunches, oblique crunches, and reverse crunches. Didn’t want to do too much because my back was really bothering me in the morning. Not muscle soreness from lifting, I’m not sure what it was from!
I stretched it out big time, because my hip flexors always get super tight! Then headed home to my baby girl! We jumped in the big bed and snuggled for a few minutes just because 🙂
I decided to “splurge” a little bit for dinner if this counts as a splurge. My G-Mama used to make these BOMB onion rings using baked kettle chips as breading. When you bake them in the oven they taste like they are fried! So good. I made some for myself for dinner because this morning I stepped on the scale and I’m down 5 lbs. Definitely not trying to lose any more weight, so I enjoyed the onion rings guilt free.
I don’t think it was even a splurge since I wasn’t able to eat a real lunch. I ended up eating more snacks too.
I promise to have a recipe up tomorrow! I was going to make a yummy chicken recipe, but realized I used all my chicken for my lunches this week. What I thought was chicken breast in my freezer turned out to be pork chops.
So come back tomorrow for a great recipe and SHOULDER DAY! 🙂
XOXO With a Cherry On Top,
-Minnie
