Fudge! It reminds me of Ocean City, Maryland. The long boardwalk, walking in the Candy Kitchen and smelling every kind of chocolate you could dream of, mixed with the sweet scent of salt water taffy. I always think back to our family vacations as a kid, and then I think about the pound of sand in the bottom of my swimsuit and crying about it. Hey we’ve all been there!
My sister always LOVED the ocean. I liked it, but I could take it or leave it because of sand issues. The real reason I loved Ocean City was because of the food, especially the fudge. I can’t remember a trip where I didn’t get it!
Since fudge isn’t exactly “figure friendly” it seems like it’s never an option to have. Well I have squashed that thought! Not only have I made a version of it that is healthy, I’ve made it VEGAN! No butter at all in these babies. You’re welcome 🙂
So what did I use? And how is it buttery goodness?
Enter the avocado…
It sounds weird, but it works perfect! It gives the fudge that luscious, smooth, buttery texture. Plus avocados are loaded with the good fats we all need and love. Enjoy this little treat guilt free!
For this recipe you will need:
- 2 large avocados
- 1/3 cup of cacao powder (superfood, if you don’t have use regular cocoa powder)
- 2 Tablespoons of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 2 Tablespoons of sugar free maple syrup
- 1 Tablespoon of coconut nectar (you can use agave too)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 Tablespoons of stevia in the raw
- pinch of salt
Makes 12 pieces of fudge
Scoop out the avocados and place all ingredients in a blender or food processor
Make sure you scrape the sides so it is all blended
I did lick the spoon… couldn’t help myself!
Place in a container, about an inch or so deep
Pop in the freezer for about 2-3 hours and then slice into 12 equal pieces.

Each piece of fudge is 66 calories, 5.2 grams of fat, 5.2 grams of carbs, 1.1 grams of protein, and 1.2 grams of sugar.
Compare that to regular fudge that can have up to 160 calories a serving, 6 grams of fat (NOT the good kind), and over 25 grams of sugar. HOLY MOLY! Mine is only 1.2 grams of sugar. Remember kids, sugar turns into fat 😉
