What’s Fueling You

Hi everyone!

Today I want to touch on something I find to be pretty important. The other day I was having a conversation with my best friend about food. No surprise there, huh?

Well I’m not talking drooling over sprinkles. I’m talking about using food as fuel and how it changes your body. I love snacks and things as much as the next girl, but I’ve now been on prep for 13 days (not that I’m counting) and have noticed a huge difference already.

Take day 1 that I did fasted cardio. I had to stop after 14 minutes. FOURTEEN! I could pound out an hour no problem in the middle of my prep. Today? Well I did my time without any struggle.

So did I magically get in shape in 13 days? No. I was always in shape. However, there was one difference.

THE FOOD.

I have followed my diet exactly, fueling myself with clean foods. Before prep I was still enjoying sugar, restaurant food, and things off plan. It made me feel sluggish, tired, fatigued, and completely out of shape. Now I’m not saying you cannot enjoy those things EVER, but I downright took advantage of it for a while and it took a toll on my body. I can’t imagine feeling that way all time time. At times I would just feel “gross”, there’s no other way to describe it.

Going off that, yes my coach is allowing me an occasional meal off plan. It has yet to happen, but it will in the future. Before I was all about NO CHEATS, but I think a meal here and there so far away from a contest is perfectly manageable.

Here’s where I change things up. I am done with CHEAT MEALS. Think of that phrase. It’s negative huh? You are CHEATING. Cheating yourself, cheating your body, cheating the program. I’m done with those words. From now on Tony and I are calling them TREAT MEALS. It should be a positive thing, not a negative. Guilt should not be associated with enjoying food. I’m over making myself feel bad. So please join the movement with me and say buh-bye to the word Cheat.

But anyway, so far so good on the plan. In case you missed it, yesterday I posted this picture on my Instagram.

My shoulders are definitely not what they were and that’s okay. I can’t be shredded fitness Barbie all the time.

However, I’m working really hard for the delt comeback and I want them better than ever!

I hope you have a fabulous day. I’m going to end this post with a happy picture of Shelby Ann because well, puppies are adorable!

sorry if this is totally TIM (well i guess #sorrynotsorry since i’m asking anyways lol) . . . since your body changes pretty drastically between on and off season, do you ever have issues with stretch marks? if so, what, if anything, do you use to reduce their appearance.

I do make dramatic changes, yes. But it’s more like I shred and then have a normal body. I’m always at a healthy weight and not overweight, so the only place I do have stretch marks are my hips. They aren’t super noticeable and I don’t do anything for them. Sorry I couldn’t help!

Thanks Amy! Yeah I decided I was done with being negative about the occasional indulgences. Treat not cheat!

OMG thank you for posting this. I was literally yesterday having this same conversation about having cheat meals, and how I don’t even like doing them because of the guilt. And so this made me feel so much better. And your so right about the fuel of the body, makes a huge difference. Thanks for always posting from your heart. You rock and I love your blog.

Aw thanks girl! I try to keep my blog as real as possible. I’ve read some out there for years and realized it’s a lot of image “fakery”. Not just photoshop, but pretending to be someone you are not. Thanks for reading!
