All this Time

Happy Monday!

Now that I have all this time and I’m going crazy, I’ve been doing random stuff in the house to keep busy. Like making my own cajun seasoning.

A lot of those seasonings are LOADED with sodium. Now this does have a little bit of salt, but I put in the smallest pinch! Probably less than 1/4th of a teaspoon. Just a pinch between the fingers.

If you want a cajun seasoning, chances are your spice cabinet has all you need. Here’s what I used:

  • 1 Tablespoon Paprika (gives it that great color)
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • 3/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more if you like it super spicy)
  • pinch of salt

I used an old paprika shaker to hold the seasoning. You can sprinkle this on anything, but it goes great on cooked proteins; fish, chicken, even tofu.

SO simple, you don’t even have to grind any of the seasonings, plus it’ll save you 4-7 bucks in the grocery store and some sodium!

I’m all about saving money lately. What was once an afterthought, is now present daily. I was guilty of not looking at prices of things, and ESPECIALLY GUILTY of over shopping in the grocery store. Wegman’s always got me. I mean clearly I need this asparagus dish and flowers with glitter on them…

Not just random things, but actual food too. I would buy so much food. Enough to feed a family of 6. Now I’m shopping simplistic. Just what I need for the week and nothing more. My fridge has definitely lightened up and now I can actually find my food.

I still buy things for myself here and there. I even got these cute flats at Target on clearance. 11 bucks? Can’t beat it!

Phoebe approved too. Target will always win the battle of coming out with more than you need. I realize this Target, I bow down to you. I also have a Bed Bath and Beyond down the street from me, let’s just say I know better than to go in there. Oh an avocado slicer? YES!

No, Katie, NO!

There are so many crazy kitchen gadgets out there when really it’s just more to store and clean. My kitchen gadget drawer is full enough, thank you.

So what else am I obsessed with lately? Well iced coffees after a gym session. I bring my own unsweetened cashew milk (25 calories a cup!) and I use about half a cup in a venti.

So delicious 🙂

I do have to say that Starbucks being on the mobile pay front is quite amazing. I mean really how many times have I gone somewhere without my wallet because I’m constantly switching bags? A LOT. How many times have I gone without my cell phone? Well, NEVER. Being able to pay through your phone is incredible. I’m sure everything will be like this one day. No IDs, No wallets, No money or credit cards. All on your phone.

And to end today I’d like to say, no G-Mama, Phoebe did not get brushed last night as I planned. Really I didn’t feel like getting bitten 😉

Have a wonderful Monday. If you’re getting snow, stay safe out there!

XOXO With a Cherry On Top,

-Minnie

The husband and I are both foodies and thus end up with a lot of kitchen gadgets for holidays/birthdays/etc. The thing of the matter is, and we say this over and over again, if you have a good kitchen knife (read: a few), then you can do anything you need to do with those rather than some new gadget. But, I do understand the appeal of the bright green against the shiny steel of the avocado slicer. 😉 Glad to see you’re keeping yourself busy with your time off; enjoy it!

This is so true. I have one good knife that does it all.
