Grown Up Things
I’m sorry, when did I become a grown up?
When did I get older than the Friends characters? (Well in most episodes)
When did I not realize it has been 13 years since I was a senior in high school? Oh, when someone stopped me in my old high school field hockey sweatshirt and asked if I played…
Why am I sounding even older than I realize right now?
Do you ever have these moments? When you sit back and think ‘wow where has time gone?’. If you are a young girl reading my blog you are probably thinking ‘Skinny Minnie is really sounding like an old lady right now.’ Sorry girls. From what I’ve collected a big chunk of my readers are my age or a little bit older and can relate. We are insanely busy rushing from here to there. Even if your life is COMPLETELY different than mine. Say you are a mom. You are rushing to get the kids ready for school, get yourself to work, rush to pick them up, take them to soccer practice, rush and make dinner, MAYBE make it to the gym. I don’t know how you moms do it. Major props to all Moms AND Dads out there who are super heroes. I can barely handle Phoebe.
But anyway, it’s rare we sit back and enjoy life with everything going on. But yesterday morning I did just that. Usually on Sundays now I rush to get to the gym early before the crowd hits since football season is over. Instead I got up, made a pot of coffee, turned on my music and just sat.
I thought about all I’ve accomplished this past year and where I’m going. Today marks the first day of my brand new job. I’m nervous, but that comes with any new job; but as G-Mama would say “I feel it in my bones” that this is the right fit for me.
Even though I am approaching the big 3-0 I thought more about what I’ve done with my life since college. The bad medical office jobs (I mean bad! I mean cleaning “equipment” at a GYN office—yeah, you definitely can’t say my parents paid my way through PA school, I started at the bottom folks! YUCK!), to a grueling two years of graduate school, 2 PA jobs that were challenging, but still didn’t feel right (I did learn a lot though), a growing blog with awesome readers. I’m not one of those people who says “I’m so blessed for what I’ve been given”. Yes I am blessed, but I worked my little tail off for all of it.
The study marathons in PA school
I don’t want this to come across as bragging, that’s NOT what this is about. In fact it’s the opposite. I’m a believer in HARD FREAKING WORK. Hard work gets you places. I do thank my Dad for teaching me that. Growing up he was (and still is in fact) the hardest working man I know. He’d take the extra jobs when he got the call because he knew it was to support his family. He taught me if you want to be successful you have to work for it. While unfortunately some of the world is “who you know”, if you have a brain, an education, and a nice resume to back it up, one failure is just a small bump in the road until you get to the real place you’re meant to be.
So anyway, absolutely nothing fitness related today, but you guys know me. Sometimes I just like to pour my heart out on here 🙂 Thanks for listening 😉
Have a great Monday

Thank you for this post, Katie! I needed it to feel encouragement and that is exactly what your posts do. You also remind me that it’s possible to achieve our dreams with hard work and desire. I am going to make it happen! I have never met you but I really admire you and your work ethic! I am so excited to hear all about your new work! Keep it up!
Blessings!
