Clumsy Katie

Hey Gang 🙂

It’s Thursday. Normally I would be thrilled by now, but I have a full day of work ahead of me tomorrow on a Friday. I volunteered, so I cannot complain.

Yesterday morning at work was SUPER fun! But then it ended like this….

my boo boos

JUST KIDDING! I am ridiculously clumsy, but not that clumsy.

No seriously, I got into a fight with a guy at the gym…you should see the other guy 😉

Okay now that I am being 100% serious, the ortho PAs wanted to practice casting since it’s always a tech that does it in the ER, so I asked to join. My morning work was done so I was a guinea pig. I did casting in PA school, but since I haven’t done anything orthopedic since I graduated, it was fun to refresh my skills. Lots of laughs and inappropriate jokes were involved in this, that’s how we roll.

Casting takes a lot of work to get it just right! Plus taking it off is just as much of a challenge.

the saw

That would be a saw. I obviously put way too much trust in my colleagues 😉

jaws of life

Prying open the cast.

Then they let me saw off the cast on one of my co-workers. Me with a weapon? Watch out! One of the senior PAs made a good point and said you never know when they will ask you to do something like this even though it is not your scope of practice. I love learning a new skill anyway, plus it’s like a power tool! Big responsibility in my hands! I LIKE IT!

me with a saw

But as you see we took off the casts and I am A-Okay. I don’t know what I would do if it were real. How would I workout? Actually with the foot cast on I kept saying hey I could leg press in this. Only me….

no more boo boos

Later on in the day after lunch I did some work around the hospital. I did not get those dictations done like I said I was going to, but there is always these next few days.

Then it was time to leave and time to hit my favorite place!

squat city

This picture looks a little funny because I was using a box step up and it blends in with the floor. Looks like my foot is missing! It’s there, no worries, they didn’t saw it off by mistake 😉

I only did 20 minutes of cardio since I did lots of squats and booty work! This workout included a little something I call the 50/50

  • 50 pound barbell
  • 20 regular squats
  • 10 good mornings
  • 20 plie squats
  • = 50

I did 4 sets of these bad boys to equal 200! Holy cow.

But I didn’t stop there!

  • Box step ups using 15 lb kettles, 8 reps x 4 sets
  • Pushups on bosu, 10 reps x 3 sets (I did these in between step ups)
  • Deep bosu squats, 12 reps x 4 sets
  • Mini squats holding 24 lb kettles, 10 reps x 3 sets
  • Squat  then front kicks (alternating), 10 reps x 3 sets
  • Plie squats (ON TOES) with 25 lb kettle, 10 reps x 3 sets
  • Squat and side kick, 10 reps x 3 sets each side (focus on one leg at a time)
  • Deep squats, unweighted, 10 reps x 2 sets
  • Side bends with 25 lb kettle, 12 reps x 2 sets each side

And I was DONE! My booty felt that one. Goes to show you that you do not need all those fancy machines to get an amazing workout!

booty day

Now I’ve always had a bit of a butt, BUT squats make it perky and round! So do them ladies 🙂 I wouldn’t lie to you!

Plus squats burn lots and lots of calories. Heart rate is up the entire time, so you can’t go wrong.

When I came home Phoebe ran right to me as usual and she felt super light! Maybe I lifted too heavy at the gym and it was in my head, OR maybe I brushed too much fluff off her!

like a baby

No dinner pictures because I was a lazy bum and ate my Friday lunch for dinner last night… whoops! Guess I need to make a new lunch. I also didn’t make the ground turkey. Maybe I will take a day off from the gym and do that today. Depends on how the day goes. Thursdays are usually busy at work since my team sees ER patients and staff is a little short this week, so should be interesting.

2 more days to go, then 2 days off 🙂

XOXO With a Cherry On Top,

-Minnie

P.S. I try to make my blog as POSITIVE as possible, but since I work in the medical field and I am a reality TV junkie I was saddened to hear the news of such a BEAUTIFUL young woman named Gia Allemand who took her life yesterday. Gia was on my favorite season of the Bachelor featuring Jake Pavelka. On the outside it looked like this woman had the world at her fingertips. It breaks my heart that she felt she had to resort to such a drastic measure based on “alleged” relationship problems. I ask that if you are reading this and have ever had a thought like this, please seek out someone to talk to. Things cannot be undone, and there is always hope and support out there. Life is too precious and too short. <3

Hahaha before I clicked on the post, all I saw was the picture, and I was freaking out for you. Thought that went through my head: “Omg, how is she going to workout now?!” Thank god it wasn’t real!! I’d go with, you lifted to heavy and that’s why Phoebe feels super light, nothing wrong with that 🙂 Have a great day girl 🙂

Your P.S. really got me. I’m actually watching some reality TV right now while I check out blogs and I only learned about Gia Allemand on E!’s bottom scroll. So sad 🙁 But I really enjoyed your positive post! Plus, I’ve never broken any bones so the bit on casting was actually very interesting! I’ve always wondered (but never really wanted to find out…heh)
