Expanding My Horizons
Good Morning, I wish you a very happy Thursday. It’s already December 12th! EEK! Less than 2 weeks away from Christmas. I swore I’d finish everything I needed to by the 14th and I haven’t. Must get on that ASAP. I just hate driving anywhere during the holiday season. You cannot even go to the store for regular items without being in a massive crowd. In case this is your first visit, I don’t like crowds, they make me nervous.
Yesterday at work I dabbled in something outside of the realm of general surgery.
No I was not biking…
I scrubbed in on an orthopedic case. It’s a completely different world, but loads of fun. I hadn’t done anything like it since I was a student, and I’m all about refreshing my brain and learning new skills. For those of you unfamiliar, we did a hip replacement and that involves a crazy space suit you wear because blood and bone flies everywhere when you use a medical saw. The helmet is used to keep the suit cool and venilated because boy do those things get hot!
I learned a lot and was more than happy to scrub in and help out. I’d love to do more in the future 🙂
Oh and I MAY have plugged my blog to an orthopedic rep who supplies the implant for the hip. But in all fairness someone told him I had a blog, so the polite thing to do would be to make him write it down… Hey he asked!
And good thing it was a surgery day because my hair was a gross mess. So solution to that? Cover it up with a thick headband and throw it up in a messy bun. No questions asked. The crazy print headband distracts away from the rest 😉
Moving on, in the afternoon my feet started to drag and gym motivation was at an all time low. I knew I had to get my tush in the gym though. I did glute work and 25 minutes of cardio. 15 minutes of HIIT on the spin bike and a 10 minute arc trainer session focusing on the glutes.
All coordinated… you know!
Here was my glute workout:
- Cable leg glute exxtensions, 20-30 lbs, 10 reps x 3 sets each leg
- Plie squats, 25 lb kettle in hand, 10 reps x 3 sets
- Alternating curtsy lunges, 16 reps x 3 sets
- Deep squats, 15 lb weights, 10 reps x 4 sets
- Hamstring curl machine, 25 lbs, 8 reps x 3 sets each leg
- Box Glute raise, 12.5 weights in hand- Stand on box lift straight leg backwards up and down then pulse for 8. Do 3 sets each leg
- Box step ups with glute raise. 12.5 weights in hand, 8 alternating reps x 2 sets
- Dead lifts, 80 lbs, 8 reps x 3 sets
Was feeling beast and then the dead lift I pulled my back 🙁 I’ve really been having trouble with it lately. I must’ve done some damage somewhere and keep re-injuring. I know it’s not improper form, I watch myself very carefully now!
But still gave myself a little flex time 😉
So I am home today to heal my back some. And how did my morning start? Well with zero sleep because BUFFAY was bad. And so I put her off my bed for an hour and half until she cried so loud I let her come back. Only to wake up in the morning and not be able to find her water dish. Mind you, this is a HEAVY porcelain pink water dish. There is no way she could pick it up with her mouth, yet it is GONE. I searched every where. I finally said REGINA PHALANGE! (what I call her when she’s super bad- Phoebe Buffay’s alter ego on Friends), where is that darn water dish!?
She just stuck out her tongue and ran away. See what I deal with? Yes, Phoebe is absolutely adorable, but the kid is trouble.
Even her eyebrows scream DEVIL! What is up with those this morning?
Hours later, yep it’s still gone. My apartment isn’t that big, and it’s not messy. WHERE IS IT!? It’s driving me crazy! >.<
But oh she is so cute <3
