Mexico- Part 3

Welcome back!

Today I talk going against my mothers wishes and leaving the resort. Here was my reasoning:

1. Puerto Vallarta is a nice area
2. Sarah is SUPER fluent in Spanish (I’m talking, people were convinced she lives there).
3. I’m a grown up- duh
4. YOLO?

Okay, so I really hate the phrase you only live once (YOLO), but it really applies here. When was I ever going to go back? I definitely felt super at ease having Sarah by my side for the communication barrier issues, so I said let’s do it. I may have looked super touristy at times.

Our second day there I told Sarah I wanted to try Mexican candies and treats. There was an OXXO 6 feet away from the resort (kind of their version of Wawa or 7-11), so when we went over there and I saw all the cool different snacks she said we should try WalMart instead. Here’s where I get super excited.

Tony and I love to go to WalMart at home. It’s kind of our thing. It started with wandering the aisles for cheat meal desserts, but we soon realized it’s just the togetherness we like so much. That and WalMart has EVERYTHING. Plus the people watching is top notch.

Imagine my excitement going to a WalMart in Mexico. So many products I’ve never seen before. I felt like a toddler seeing fireworks for the first time.

There were of course the familiar items…

But also some fun new finds!

Gummies!

Including a crazy delicious bakery. I’ve never seen bakeries like this in WalMarts back home. Sarah said if we had gone to a real bakery it would be 10 times better, I really can’t imagine that.

I splurged and picked up a buttery cookie with sprinkles, of course; also a doughnut!

That doughnut hands down was the best one I’ve ever had. Sarah told me she would get one everyday when she studied abroad. Homegirl knows what’s up 😉

After WalMart came dinner time. We decided to have authentic street tacos. I’m not sure how people stand eating that way, so close to the hot grills, I honestly felt like I was going to pass out from the heat so I had to back away some.

Sarah asked if I wanted to be adventurous. I was down. We had TONGUE TACOS!

The tongue. Don’t mess with that lady… look at that kitchen knife! 

And guess what? They were incredible!

Beef tongue is very lean. Don’t be scared by this meat, it was so tasty! I actually ended up ordering more and getting a quesadilla. We split all kinds of delicious foods!

There were maybe a few stares involved because it definitely was NOT a tourist area. It was the main city and we looked a little out of place, but I didn’t mind. I enjoyed every second of it 🙂

The following day we went to the main city where the marina is located. The cobblestone streets gave me a hint of motion sickness in the taxi, but it was worth it to explore a little.

Of course we had to hit up Starbucks first!

The treats in the case, way better in Mexico…. wow good thing we don’t have that back home! Too much temptation! 

I spelled it for her too, not sure what this says…

We walked around the shops and I picked up this new mug for my collection. So cute, huh?

For lunch we stopped at Señor Frogs and shared a HUGE thing of guacamole. Everywhere we went I had to say no cilantro. I’m one of those people that says it tastes like soap. Luckily everything is made fresh so I could tell them not to add it. The chips in Mexico are also FABULOUS. Not the thin ones you will get around my way. These are thick chips made for dipping. I was in love.

We also had balloon animals given to us and had fun with the seats at the bar!

Yeah I’m that burnt. We will get to that later, I wore SPF 100… sore subject. 

Later we walked the streets and Sarah wanted an ice cream. Leave it to me to find the sprinkles. These were the GOOD sprinkles. Thin with that crunch. Oh baby… I’m salivating thinking about them!

A delicious chocolate covered ice cream treat. Sarah loved it too 🙂

Nothing crazy for our outings, just seeing what the beautiful city of Puerto Vallarta had to offer. I’m so glad we went!

Tomorrow I end this weeks blog posts with a workout, sunsets, and saying goodbye to my dear friend.
