You Better Make it Count Cause You Can’t Get it Back
Time that is. My title is from one of my favorite Carrie Underwood songs “So Small”. I just adore Carrie. She’s a live country Barbie doll. I was thinking about my life as I was driving home last night, listening to this song. I’m often asked why I stay in so much, why I don’t drink, and why I never go out and “live a little”. Well I live a lot, just not in the same way as everyone else!
When I’m old one day, I want to look back and say my time spent was doing what I WANTED. Not what anyone else wanted. I love working out and I love spending time at my parents house with the pups. Family is one of the most important things in the world to me. I don’t think I’ll ever look back and say man I wished I would have spent more time in a bar or a club over spending time at Mom and Dad’s. Yeah I’ll pass.
Yes they say life is short, go crazy, do things. But make it what you want! Don’t listen to anyone else. I agree life is super short, so make the best of it and be happy with what you have. If you’re not happy, change it! I’m happy with just Phoebe and I and our little routine. Maybe one day things will change, but for now I like the way things are working for us 🙂
Moving on, yesterday morning I woke up craving what else? A fluff! I wanted a creamy cookies and cream one so I planned on keeping it pretty simple with the protein powder, almond milk and banana. Well then I came across this wheat grass powder I bought a few weeks back.
I forgot I had it so I thought well let me throw a little teaspoon in there. It says the serving size is a tablespoon, but I wanted to test it first because the color scared me a bit (muddy green).
I took one sip and gagged. I thought man I am going to have to throw out this fluff, but I refused. So I doubled up the almond milk and threw in some PB2 powder to mask the taste. Well my fluff wasn’t a fluff any longer… I drank it anyway.
I also loaded up on some ezekiel bread. This is cinnamon raisin topped with laughing cow light strawberry cream cheese spread, and the other one is Justin’s chocolate almond butter.
Phoebe and I soon headed to G-Mama and Pop Pops. It felt really good to see them. Phoebs always runs to the treat bed as soon as she gets there. G-Mama always loads it up for Phoebe to pick from when we come. She just loves it!
G-Mama and I then sat down and picked out what I want for my new blog design. I mentioned before I am having someone do a blog “makeover” for me. I’m so excited. It’ll look very different, but in a good way, promise! I want to tell you all now, but don’t want to spoil the fun. It’s going to look amazing, so I don’t want to give any hints at all. Sorry guys 🙂
I snacked on greek yogurt with acai powder (a super food) and another protein shake.
After a little nap on the couch (Phoebe was bad in the morning and wouldn’t let me sleep), I headed to the gym. I really didn’t want to go, was lacking some motivation, but I’m so glad I did. The sessions where you don’t feel like working out always end up being the best ones!
Since I was “doubling up” I did 62 minutes straight on my favorite incline elliptical! I know this is a lot of time, but every ten minutes I would switch the direction (forward pedal vs backwards pedal). I also would change the speed and resistance every 20. First 20 I did a regular elliptical session, 2nd 20 I did sprint intervals, 3rd 20 I did really high resistance and lower speed. This way I didn’t get bored!
Since I went crazy, I hopped on the stairmaster for 12 minutes. Boy I was really sweating after this cardio session.
Then it was time to hit shoulders
- Rear Delt Raises, 20 lb weights, 15 reps x 4 sets
- Straight arm lateral raises standing on bosu, 8 lb weights, 12 reps x 4 sets
- Front delt pulses standing on bosu, 8 lb weights, hold weights straight in front of you, palms down, pulse for 8, then chest press in, then 8 more straight arm pulses. 4 sets
- Cross punches standing on bosu, 8 lb weights, 20 reps alternating x 4 sets
- Plate raises, 25 lbs, 12 reps x 4 sets
- Pushups, 10 reps x 4 sets
- Smith machine shoulder shrugs, 155 lbs (yowza), 8 reps x 4 sets
- Smith machine shoulder press, 65 lbs, 10 reps x 4 sets
- Hook punches, 10 lb weights, 20 reps alternating x 4 sets
- Upright rows, cable, 50 lbs, 12 reps x 4 sets
- Open and close rotator cuff abduction, 20 lb weights, 12 reps x 4 sets
I did a bunch of exercises just balancing on the bosu, if you read the above workout. I flip it over and stand on the flat top and you really have to work your core the whole time. My body has really adjusted to it by now, so it’s not as much of a challenge for me, but I still do it anyway. Balance is always needed!
I also did some side bends, torso twists, and bosu squats.

At home I decided to use my fresh eggs to make dinner. I did egg whites topped with my homemade salsa (I didn’t throw out the yolks, saved them for another recipe), and one whole egg with a slice of ezekiel (really missing bread lately, isn’t it obvious?). I also had a huge chicken breast!
I couldn’t believe how great the eggs tasted. They turned out so fluffy too. I didn’t even need the salsa, they tasted so great on their own.
I also had this trail mix bar (I’m almost through all of them because I’m addicted all of a sudden). I’ve been doing these instead of almonds!
It was an interesting text day for me too. Here are two convo’s I had.
The first one is with my BFF for life. We often have two conversations at once, but let me say I was talking about dating profiles and how everyone writes that they are “athletic and toned”. The other stuff she is talking about is paint. DiPeppe and her hubby just bought their first house and can’t agree on paint colors it seems! But that’s not the point of this text screen cap, it’s how ridiculous I can be at times 😉
This next one is about work on Monday. My boss sent me a text telling me what case I am going to be in on Monday (I had to blur out the docs name, that’s why it’s smudged)
Yes I am “that girl” at work. But hey I’d rather be that crazy fitness nut at work than something else! I’ll take it 🙂
I spent the rest of my evening doing some blog related activities and I also put this little comparison picture up on Instagram. Look how much my arms have changed! This was in Jamaica in December 2010.
Whenever I look back at those pictures I’m shocked. I never really saw myself looking that way. Now that I see myself side by side, I can’t believe how different I look.
I will have a new recipe up for you tomorrow! So make sure you come back. Happy Saturday to everyone 🙂
XOXO With a Cherry On Top,
-Minnie
P.S. I added a Frequently Asked Questions tab this morning! These are the answers to the most common questions I am asked about. Check it out!

Are you posting your salsa recipe soon? I tried making it the other night and I put in WAAAAY too much onion LOL! You are truly my inspiration for starting my blog and basically keeping up working out while going to school. I remember reading in, I think, your about me section about how you gained weight through school and when school finished is when you dropped the weight and leaned out. That’s what I’m holding out for. I know for a fact that there is almost no way I will be able to lose weight while I am going to school and doing everything else I’m doing. I’m just too stressed out and my body isn’t going to let go of the chunk to save my life LOL! I look forward to the day that I can put as much into my fitness that I do with school.

My salsa recipe was supposed to be saved for another website. I actually winged this one and it did NOT taste the same as the first go around! I know I wrote it down somewhere it’s just finding it now lol. Yeah it’s hard doing all of this while in school! I’m glad I can inspire Sarah 🙂

Eggs and salsa sound soooo good right now! I’m not going to risk it the night before a 10 mile race, but I’m definitely doing eggs after the race is over!!
Katie
hahaha no I wouldn’t do that before a race. Good luck!
